| Knights of Columbus Awards for Youth Contests |
Santa Maria Council #2829 has completed the Knights of Columbus Youth contests for the 2009-2010 year. The young men and women of the parish were successful at both the District and State Levels. The youth of our council brought home 12 district winners, 2 third place finishes at the State level, and 3 State winners. Council #2829 also distributed the Math and Social Study awards at the St. Leo’s Catholic School Eighth grade graduation on June 2, 2010. At the Eighth Grade Graduation at St. Leo’s School, Grand Knight Craig Smith presented the Math and Social Studies awards. Each winner was given a $100.00 US Savings Bond for the highest average in each subject. Jack Riazzi won the Algebra I and American History Awards for this year. Ani Fitzgerald won the Basic Algebra Award. Congratulations to both of the winners. Awards were given out for our last two State winners for this school year. Peyton Pesavento was the ages 8-11 year old State winner for the Knights of Columbus Alcohol Awareness Abuse Poster Contest. The State Council of North Carolina announces only one winner for the Knights of Columbus Essay Contest. The winner of the 2010 Essay Contest was Will Killoran. Will received a $100.00 check and a plaque as the North Carolina State winner. Santa Maria Council #2829 would like thank all the participants in the Youth Contests and Congratulations to all of our District and State Winners for the 2009-2010 year!
